We grew up together and never really became close but had a few good times. Like him, others in his family suffered from mental problems and he took his life a few years ago while living in Nevada. Richard was talented in many ways but I guess he couldnt see a way to continue in this life. I hope he finds more peace now.

I remember Richard as a pretty good cross country runner. Hope I have that right. He attended Chico State University and was one of my roommates for a semester. He always had a cat and I remember him growing some pretty amazing coleuses. Sorry to hear he's no longer with us.

I remember Rich from Gallinas Elementary through high school. I also remember his parents. They were "older" parents and kept to themselves. I am sorry to hear that he took his own life. So sad.

I was able to visit Rich a lot in Tahoe, Truckee, and Reno.  We played a lot of golf, ran a little bit, and we lifted at the gym.  Gobey was a pretty good athlete.  I believe he was bi-polar.  His manic highs were fun, but in his lows..........he was not fun.  Rest in peace my friend,  I truly miss you.

Richard was one of my better friends in high school and one of the few people I kept in contact with on a regular basis after we graduated. I met him at Santa Venetia Junior High. We would go bowling together, his dad would take us half the time and my mom or dad would take us the other half of the time (he always won). We were on the cross country team our senior year at Terra Linda. After college when he moved up to Tahoe I would see him a couple times a year when we would go up there. Richard and I bought a house in South Lake Tahoe together and I could always count on him to hold up his part of our house partnership. Once or twice during his lows he came and stayed with us. I remember in the mid 80s he decided to become a body builder at 6ft and 160lbs. That takes a lot of guts to stand up there and compete. After I got divorced at the back end of 1998 I lost touch with him because I was spending so much time trying to raise the kids. I believe it was Dick Govi who told me that he had taken his life. What a shame. He was always a very nice guy and has been missed by me.

I remeber Rich as being a very sweet guy with a great smile . I appreciate those sharing stories about growing up together. The 50s and 60s in Marin was very special.
